Where Thoughts Flow Freely!

Trying Meditation: I’m Not a Monk (Yet)

Lately, I’ve been tumbling down a rather peaceful rabbit hole “meditation”. Yes, I know, the internet has been screaming about it for years: “Meditation will transform your soul!” “You’ll find your higher self!” “You’ll levitate by Wednesday!”And like the hustled gremlin I am, I’ve avoided it. I like instant gratification…thank you very much. If I don’t see results faster than you can say “namaste”, I’m already three hobbies deep into something shinier.

Take oil painting for instance. Gorgeous medium, divine results, but the patience it requires? You could grow a beard waiting for each layer to dry 4 to 6 months, minimum! And I can’t even sit still long enough for my nail polish to set without smudging it on something (usually on the sofa). So, acrylic paint wins less romance, more speed. Still love oil, though.

My first ever oil painting… a girly in the Louise Butuan Louis Vuitton heels (idk if I spelled it right, and idk if I can pronounce it right)

But back to meditation..this year, I’m determined to slow down and cultivate some patience (I am serious). In that spirit, I bought a book: “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” by Dr. Joe Dispenza. The title alone feels like a gentle roast. It’s all about how meditation and mindset can rewire your brain, calm your inner chaos, and basically turn you into a better human.

I’ve been reading it for six months. No, not because it’s bad but because I keep cheating on it with fiction novels. Honestly, for me, a fantasy novel will always win over neuroplasticity and consciousness expansion. Sorry, Joe.

Anyway, I’ve finally started meditating. I’m on Day Two. And let me tell you… NOTHING HAS HAPPENED! I know. I have not turned into a monk. I have not relocated to the Himalayas. I did not wake up floating. But I also didn’t give up after 24 hours, so let’s call that a win, yeah?

Consistency is the name of the game, apparently. So I’ll stick with it. If I can sit still for five minutes without checking if my plants need watering for the tenth time, I’ll consider it divine progress.

Oh! And because I’m fully committed to the vibe  meditation, I bought myself a full-on matcha set. Yes. Bamboo whisk, ceramic bowl, the works. Why? Because nothing screams “I meditate now” like sipping something green in total silence. Plus, it looks fantastic on my kitchen shelf and makes me feel like I’m in a Japanese tea ceremony. Aesthetic: achieved.

So, here’s to slowing down, sipping mindfully, and maybe (just maybe) learning how to be patient without combusting from the inside.

Happy Friday, wherever you are. And if you’re starting something new too, know this: we’re all just trying not to scroll TikTok mid-meditation.

Loads of luv,

Hannah

  1. “Honestly, for me, a fantasy novel will always win over neuroplasticity and consciousness expansion. Sorry, Joe.” Me too, reading about the deep dark magical secrets of horcuxes and the death of Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore will always be more fun than neuroplasticity.

    1. I have been doing acrylic for a while now, so I had basic idea of what I was doing. Thank you for the compliment 🫶

  5. That oil not bad! Try COBRA Oils – water based and dry much quicker. Cobra viscosity is superior to anything I’ve ever painted with.

The book touts: “Lose Your Mind and Create a New One” – I’ve been EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL with the first half of that!!!!

    1. Oh Phil, once I’ve got a bit of spare cash lying around…say, after I’ve stopped choosing between paint and dinner I’ll absolutely give Cobra oils a go. They do sound dangerously luxurious. 😂

And as for the book thank you! I’m a total sucker for anything that promises a personality transplant. I’ll definitely check it out…

  6. My meditation practice got a big boost when I discovered that that’s what all that staring off into poetic space actually had been all along 👌
